Loving Doilies

I must tell you a little story about doilies and me.  When I was 15, my mum "challenged" (well, maybe persuaded strongly, is more accurate) me to make a doily for her during my end of year school holidays.  For years, she has been proudly displaying all the doilies my sister has created and I guess she thought she ought to have one from me too.  At 15, I was not a girly type of girl and I'd rather spend hours outdoors, playing under the sun.

Not wanting to disappoint mum, I thought to myself how difficult can this be.  I asked my sis to teach me the basics of crocheting, got my mum to choose a pattern she liked and started off.  To my suprise, I discovered I was a perfectionist, and I kept undoing the doily because my tension wasn't even, etc.  Well, to cut a long story short, I finally finished the doily 2 years later!  It was my first and only doily to date.

When Unity/Bella Blvd came out with the Doilies stamp set, I was "in love".  Even though crocheting is not my thing, I guess I can create stamped cards with doilies instead.

I'd love to hear what you think of the card :-)

Have a lovely day!

Hi Kary!

Loved reading your doily stories!!! And this card is such a beauty! Pretty colors on them. I have ordered the Papertrey doilies, so I hope to make a doily card myself as well soon - they are on their way from USA to me, whooo, exciting!!!

Hope you are doing well, my dear!
Did you notice anything from the terrible NZ earthquake?
Hugs, Wendy

Hi Kary - love your card - simple and yet involved at the same time. It almost looks to be moving.
As for your doily story, I taught myself to crochet somewhat younger than that and I loved it, guess I was too young to worry about tension then!!

Kari,
I love your card!! I love anything lacy but not gaudy. I will have to look into these, because as you know I am a sewer. As a young girl I was kinda a combination. Tomboy/girlie girl depending on what seemed to be the most fun at that moment. Having come from an old fashion old country Italian family; however, there were things that girls were expected to learn. Knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking & of course cleaning was just a staple. When your chores were done then you could play. I love that I learned all of those things though and never have regreted it. They have come in handy thru the years. I think that having learned those things just made me not want to stop there, but continue to learn other things. I love to create and design and try new avenues. Right now it is paper crafting.
Hugs,
Marcie
